From the Belize City airport (BZE), you have a number of rental car options to get you to River House Lodge (or you can just rent our van or motorcycles once here):

Crystal Auto Rental at BZE is one of a number of rental companies, offering cars and 4WD SUVs right at the airport.   Insurance can be purchased but many outfits do not offer full comprehensive coverage, especially when driving in 'off-road' areas, so check carefully prior to signing to see what is covered. 

The scenic four-hour drive to River House Lodge is all paved with the exception of the last couple of miles through the Sittee River Village.

Your journey will take you from BZE to Belmopan (which is known as the "smallest capital city in the world") on the Western Highway, through the mountains on the scenic Hummingbird Highway and then back down to the coast on the Southern Highway, and finally down along the Sittee River.  Along the way you'll pass through fantastic scenery and sites and cross over a few single lane bridges that used to be used for the railroad.

Directions from BZE to River House Lodge:

• Turn Right out of airport exit road onto Northern Highway and head toward Belize City (go 14 miles)

• In Belize City go Right onto the Western Highway and head toward Belmopan (go 80 miles)

• Turn Left onto the Western Highway and head toward Dangriga (go 80 miles)

• Turn Right on the Southern Highway and head toward Punta Gorda (go 12 miles)

• Turn Left at the Sittee River turn-off and head toward River House Lodge, which is just past town (go 5.7 miles)

• Turn Right into the Lodge and come into the main lodge to relax.
